When it comes to game fishing Strandja can truly offer a quality of angling that is world class, be it for the noble turbot, the elusive red mullet, the native goby, the shy gray mullet or the lazy carp. And the important factor is that no matter where you start, be it in the beginning of Veleka river or as far east as the Black sea coast, there is something for everybody.
Strandja's coarse angling offers a wide range of opportunities for the tourist. You won't find queues behind all the best swims here, or fish that have been caught so often they have names. Instead you'll have the chance to catch wild, hard-fighting specimens.
As for sea angling, Strandja has perhaps the most varied and the most beautiful coastline on the Balkan peninsula. The shingle beaches, sandy bays, sea lagoons, estuaries, cliffs, coves and rocky headlands provide a vast spectrum of marine habitats.
On the seacoast spearfishing and underwater fishing are also possible, the nice and old town of Sozopol being especially famous for these types of fishing.
All types of angling equipment, if not brought along, may be purchased in specialized shops in the seaside towns, prices are usually cheaper than EC. Spearfishing and underwater fishing equipment is available for rent in Sozopol, or may be purchased in bigger cities like Sofia and Burgas. |
